Kolkata: Cop at Park Circus opens fire, kills woman on bike, himself

Kolkata: A woman was killed and an app-based bike's rider was shot Friday afternoon as a policeman fired at least 10 rounds of bullets from his Self Loading Rifle (SLR) at Park Circus, meters away from Bangladesh Deputy High Commission. He also killed himself. 

The cop, who had reportedly fired rounds, shot himself to death near the scene.

The incident took place in the Karaya Police Station area, sources said.

The deceased woman was riding a pillion on a bike, she had booked on the ride-hailing platform Rapido. 

Local media reported that the cop erratically fired 10-15 rounds of bullets.

Several people have also been injured in the incident and they have been rushed to hospital.

The reason behind the sudden firing could not be ascertained so far.
