Mumbai/IBNS: The Maharashtra Congress has threatened to stop the shooting and screening of the movies involviong stars who had criticised the UPA government over fuel price hike in the past but haven't spoken out even as the rates have shot up higher than before under the current regime, reported the media.

State Congress chief Nana Patole accused celebrities like Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, who tweeted on fuel prices during Manmohan Singh government, of maintaining silence over the current price increase.

He questioned if these film stars lacked courage in opening up against the "dictatorial Modi government".

"In Maharashtra, we will not allow the shooting of films involving Amitabh Bachchan or Akshay Kumar. Either you speak up against the anti-national policies of the Narendra Modi government or we will stop your movies' shooting," Patole was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The state BJP has opposed Congress' stand saying its soul was dictatorial which it hid under a mask of democracy.

"Since their office is on Akbar Road, they will walk only Akbar's path. Amitabh Bachchan isn't going to be worried about their threats. He had faced similar threats from Gabbar Singh in the movie Sholay," state BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar was quoted as saying in the report.

BJP has alleged that the Congress is attacking famous personalities to vent its frustration.
