Manoj Sinha participates in Muharram procession in Srinagar held after 34 years

| @indiablooms | Jul 31, 2023, at 11:57 pm

Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha on Saturday joined the Muharram procession of Shia Muslims in Srinagar.

His administration, earlier, allowed the community to take out the procession in the city after a gap of 34 years.

It was for the first time in three decades that the head of the state joined the Muharram procession in the city.

The main Muharram procession was taken out from the Bota Kadal area of downtown Srinagar after a gap of 34 years instead of the traditional route from Abi-Guzar to Zadibal. The 8th and 10th Muharram processions were banned in Srinagar after the outbreak of militancy in J&K in 1989, reports The New Indian Express.

The administration allowed the procession this year amid drop in militancy in the region.
