Massive Ukrainian drone attack rocks Moscow: Indian worker among dead in overnight horror

| @indiablooms | May 17, 2026, at 10:18 pm

A Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow and the surrounding region has reportedly killed at least three people, including an Indian national, according to media reports.

Confirming the death of the Indian citizen, the Indian Embassy in Russia posted on X that one Indian worker was killed and three others were injured in the incident. Embassy officials visited the site of the attack and met the injured workers in hospital.

“The Embassy condoles the loss of life and is working with the company management and local authorities to provide necessary assistance to the workers,” it said.

Russian authorities, as cited by Euro News, said a large-scale drone strike overnight resulted in multiple casualties in the Moscow area. The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that air defence systems intercepted 556 Ukrainian drones across the country from Saturday night into early Sunday morning, with a further 30 drones shot down later in the day.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strikes, saying on X that the attacks were a response to Russia’s continued war efforts. “Our responses to Russia’s prolongation of the war and its attacks on our cities and communities are entirely justified,” he said, adding that Ukrainian long-range operations had reached the Moscow region from over 500 km away.

He also thanked Ukraine’s Security Service and defence forces for their “precision” strikes.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
