Kolkata/IBNS: Actor Mithun Chakraborty on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground ahead of sharing the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the mega rally.

Ending speculations over his presence at the high-voltage rally, the veteran actor appeared at the ground and could be seen sharing the stage with other BJP leaders. He was wearing a traditional dhoti.

The charismatic Bollywood actor, who is huglely popular in Bengal too, delivered a few of his high-pitched dialogues at the rally and entertained the cheering supporters with his Bengali film punchlines like "Marbo ekhaney...lash porbay shoshaney ('I will strike you here and your body will be found at the crematorium."

And then he went on to deliver his rally dialogue to lusty cheers: "Ami joldhorao noi, bele borao noi... ami ekta cobra, ek chobol-ei chhobi (I am not those harmless snakes, I am a pure cobra, one bite and you will be a photograph."

There are speculations over his role in Bengal politics under the BJP which has not yet named any CM candidate.

PM Modi addressed the mammoth rally in Kolkata's iconic Brigade Parade Ground which is expected to set the ball rolling ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in the state.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress reacted sharply to his presence in Brigade. Kolkata mayor and TMC leader Firhad Hakim said: "He was seen with Subhas Chakraborty [late CPIM leader] once, then he was with Trinamool and now with BJP. He can be seen in another platform later. I do not understand in which party is he when."
