Mumbai/IBNS : Lockdown may be clamped in Mumbai once again if the daily coronavirus cases are not arrested and people do not follow the Covid-19 protocols and wear masks, city mayor  Kishori Pednekar has said, media reports said.

Issuing a stern warning, Pednekar said if the new coronavirus cases continue to rise and people continue to flout the protocols laid to stem the spread of the infection, a fresh lockdown may have to be imposed, reported NDTV.

While pointing out that the coronavirus situation in Mumbai is "serious", she asserted that all Covid-19 rules must be followed if people want to avoid a second lockdown, it stated.

"If you are lax (in following anti-coronavirus measures) and numbers continue to increase, then lockdown will have to be imposed. If you want to avoid this, follow the rules strictly," she said, according to the NDTV report.

On Friday, Maharashtra reported 6,112 new coronavirus cases, 2,159 recoveries, and 44 deaths.

The state, which was one of the worst-hit states, started reporting over 6,000 cases nearly after three months. Today, Maharashtra recorded 6,281 cases and 40 deaths. Mumbai today registered 897 cases.

Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh - are experiencing a spik in daily cases, the Centre today said.

India, which had been reporting nearly one lakh fresh covid cases, had been reporting less 10,000 cases just a few days ago.
