NCW asks TikTok India to delete Faizal Siddiqui's account for 'instigating violence against women'

New Delhi/IBNS: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked social networking service TikTok to delete one Faizal Siddiqui's account for allegedly instigating violence against women through a video.

Siddiqui in a TikTok video was seen throwing a liquid on a girl's face as an act against betrayal triggering row on social media.

The girl can be seen with a makeup on her face suggesting acid-attack injuries.

In a letter to TikTok India grievance officer Anuj Bhatia, the NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma wrote, "The Commission is seriously concerned about the increase in crimes against women. The video not only seems to promote violence against women but shows the patriarchal mind set which would send a very wrong message to the society."

"... it is requested that the reported tiktok video be removed and the person's id be blocked...."

In a separate letter to Maharashtra Police, Sharma demanded an "immediate action" against Siddiqui.

"Considering the sensitivity of the matter, it is requested that the immediate action shall be taken as per the Information Technology Act, 2000 against the miscreants and an action taken report be sent to the Commission by E-Mail/Fax," she wrote.

Barely few months ago, actress Deepika Padukone's Hindi film Chhapaak, which was allover in the theatre houses, dealt with the crime of acid-attacks.

Padukone with prosthetic on her face played the central role of acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in the film.
