New Delhi/IBNS: With India continuing its fight against COVID-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the nation and announced that his government will continue to provide PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana scheme till the end of November which will benefit 80 crore poor people.

Adding that Rs. 90,000 crore will be spent on the scheme, Modi said: " Every person of the family will get 5kg wheat or rice free of cost. Every family will get free 1 kg chana under the scheme."

He said India's condition remained stable in comparison to other countries till now.

" Timely decisions and measures have played a great role," he said.

Modi warned that negligent behaviour was observed among people ever since the Unlock 1 started.

"We have to give extra attention to containment zones. We need to tell people who are not following rules," he said.

Meanwhile,  India reported 18,522 positive Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

With the addition of 18,522 cases, India's Covid tally touched 5,66,840.

India reported 418 deaths between Monday and Tuesday mornings taking the Covid toll to 16,893.

While there are 2,15,125 active cases in India right now, 3,34,821 people have recovered from the disease.

India to enter into Unlock 2

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued new guidelines for Unlock 2 to open up more activities in areas outside the containment zones even as the country witnesses steep rise in the coronavirus pandemic.

The new guidelines will come into effect on Jul 1, where the process of phased re-opening of activities has been extended further.

The new guidelines, issued on Monday, are based on feedback received from States and UTs, and extensive consultations held with related Central Ministries and Departments.
