PM Modi speaks to Iran's President, welcomes progress in Tehran-Washington talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the latest developments in West Asia and the way forward amid evolving regional dynamics.

During the conversation, President Pezeshkian briefed PM Modi on recent developments in the region.

The Prime Minister welcomed the progress made in negotiations between Tehran and Washington and reiterated India's long-standing position that all issues should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

PM Modi's message

Sharing details of the conversation on X, PM Modi said, "Spoke with the President of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, on the recent developments in West Asia.

"Welcomed the progress made in the negotiations and expressed hope that continued efforts will lead to lasting peace in the region. Reiterated the importance of freedom of navigation in the Hormuz Strait for India and the World."

India reiterates call for peace

PM Modi underscored the need for sustained efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in West Asia.

He also stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy and trade route.

India has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of resolving regional conflicts while emphasizing the need to protect international shipping lanes critical to global trade.
