UP govt orders free cremation of Covid victims

Lucknow/UNI: Uttar Pradesh government has issued a Government Order (GO) making cremation of people dying due to Covid-19 free of cost.

A GO issued by Additional chief secretary (Urban Development) Manoj Kumar Singh on Friday said that all cremation of Covid-19 infected bodies should be done free of cost.

The GO addressed to all the DMs, Municipal commissioners and head of the local urban bodies said that the expenditure of the cremation of the Covid-19 bodies should be made through their own resources at present and later the funds would be made available through State Finance Commission.

However, the government has fixed Rs 5,000 as the maximum expenditure for cremation of a Covid-19 body .

The GO also calls for strict adherence of Covid-19 guidelines by the urban bodies while cremation of the Covid-19 infected bodies.
