Uttar Pradesh: Two killed, 16 hurt as pick-up collides with truck

Two people were killed and 16 others were injured when a pickup vehicle collided with a truck in Kamrauli area of Amethi district in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police sources said.

Police sources said that the incident took place near Utlewa village on national highway when a Sitapur-bound pickup vehicle from Varanasi collided with the truck.

"Two persons identified as Manoj (35) and Raj Kishore (34) were killed in the accident," they said.

Police sources said that 16 others were injured in the incident and were taken to the community health centre, from where eight have been referred to the district hospital.

Station House Officer (SHO) Kamrauli Avinesh Kumar said that a total of 18 people were travelling in the pick-up vehicle, of which two died.

"16 people were injured in the accident, and the condition of eight is stated to be serious," he said.

He said that the bodies had been sent for postmortem examination. "The family members of the deceased have been informed," he said.

Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the road accident in Amethi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured while wishing them speedy recovery.
