Viral video exposes TTE’s ‘discount seat’ offer on Vande Bharat, Indian Railways takes action

A Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) of Indian Railways has been suspended after a viral social media video allegedly showed him offering passengers a seat on the Vande Bharat Express at a discounted rate without issuing a proper ticket.

The video, which has been widely circulated online, shows the TTE suggesting to a passenger that he could arrange a seat on the premium train for ₹380, bypassing the standard ticket-booking procedure.

During the interaction, the TTE can reportedly be heard admitting that such an arrangement was “not allowed.” However, despite acknowledging the violation, he allegedly went on to offer the passenger a seat at the reduced price instead of directing them to book through official channels.

The clip quickly went viral on social media, prompting a swift response from Railway Seva and the Danapur Division, East Central Railway.

Responding to the incident on X, the Danapur division confirmed disciplinary action against the employee, stating:

"Sir, the aforementioned employee has been suspended with immediate effect by the competent authority while taking necessary action against them."

The incident has also sparked widespread debate online, with several users criticising corruption within the system.

One user remarked, “TTE and traffic police have similar nature... both want to save your hard-earned money.”

Another wrote, “This is why we need digitalisation of everything. Officers never fail to amuse us with their corruptive mind.”

A third user commented, “India and corruption both are brothers.”

The episode has once again reignited conversations around transparency and accountability in public services, with many calling for stricter digital monitoring and reforms in railway ticketing operations.
