Neena Gupta says no need to believe in 'faltu feminism', men and women can't be equal

Trashing the theory of equality among the genders, Bollywood veteran Neena Gupta has said men and women can't be equal and she doesn't believe in "faltu feminism".

Neena made the comment in a podcast show hosted by Ranveer Alahbadia.

When Neena was asked about what change she would like to bring in the narrative of men and women equality, the actress said, "There is no need to believe in faltu feminism that men and women are equal. Women should be financially independent and focus on work.

"No housewife should underestimate herself. It's a big task. One should increase her self esteem and not underestimate herself. I would say this. Men and women are not equal. Equality will be achieved the day when men will start becoming pregnant. We can't be equal."

When Ranveer asked her whether "boys" are in a better situation, Neena said, "Yeah. 100 percent. Every woman can be strong but not equal to men."

Citing her own experience to back her statement, she said, "I had to catch a 6 am flight. I had no boyfriend. I was young. I got out at 4 am. It was dark. A man was following me.

"I got scared and got back home and I missed the flight. I booked a flight the next morning. I stayed over at male friend's house and he had dropped me. I need a man."

Neena got married to Amlan Kusum Ghose at a very early age in 1977. The two got divorced a year later.

The actress, who was in a live-in relationship with former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards, is the mother of fashion designer Masaba Gupta.

In 2008, she got married to chartered accountant Vivek Mehra.

On the work front, Neena was last seen in Avishek Ghosh's 'Ishq-e-Nadaan'. She was seen playing a key role in the Netflix film 'Lust Stories 2'.
