Mumbai, May 9 (IBNS): Proclaimed as the best film yet of 2015 by audiences and critics alike, Shoojit Sircar’s family comedy drama, 'Piku' has kick started its journey with overwhelmingly positive reactions from across the board, in India and abroad.

Early estimates indicate that the film has clocked around 5.5 Cr Nett on Day 1 in India. While the numbers are pouring the film has also opened exceedingly well in international markets of UAE, UK, Australia and the US and  is set to have an outstanding box office debut abroad too.

Flying high on a great word of mouth worldwide, the film has ensured that youth and families throng the cinemas to take a peek into the crazy world of Piku, Baba and Rana.

A limited screen release, the popular and critical acclaim of Piku has been attributed to a number of factors- from Shoojit Sircar’s “deft direction” to Juhi Chaturvedi’s “taut screenplay and dialogues”; from Deepika Padukone’s “career best performance” and Amitabh Bachchan’s “eccentric yet endearing” act as Piku’s Baba to Irrfan’s “crackling on screen chemistry” with Deepika.
