Paris, Jan 12 (IBNS): An explosion rocked a bakery in Paris city of France on Saturday which left at least 20 people hurt, media reports said.

Cars were wrecked and other buildings were damaged by the blast on Rue de Trévise in the 9th Arrondissement, reported BBC.

Police are suspecting that a possible gas leakage might be the cause of the explosion.

Police have asked people to stay away from the area.

Firefighters are currently trying to bring the flames caused due to the explosion under control, reports said.

Paris police tweeted: " # ongoing intervention of the @ PompiersParis for a fire in a trade followed by a strong explosion street of Treviso in the 9th. Avoid the area and leave the passage to the emergency vehicles."

French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner reacted to the development and tweeted: "Rue de Treviso, alongside the Prime Minister, the Paris prosecutor, the @ prefpolice and the Mayor of the capital. More than 200 @ PompiersParis are engaged in rescue operations. The balance sheet looks heavy. My first thoughts are with the wounded and their loved ones."
