London station evacuated after man on track claims to have bomb

London, Jun 22 (IBNS) : British police swooped on a central London station on Friday morning (local)  after a man climbed onto rail tracks and claimed he had a bomb, local newspaper reports said.

Passengers fled Charing Cross station and it was evacuated during the incident at the start of the morning rush hour.

Police later said that a man had been arrested and that the station would be reopened as soon as possible.

Evening Standard quoted a  British Transport Police spokesman as saying :  "A man claiming to have a bomb at #CharingCross station has now been arrested. We are now working to reopen the station as soon as possible would like to thank passengers and rail staff for their patience and understanding during this incident."

Witnesses reported seeing armed police swarm on the station as passengers were cleared.

Tube and rail services were both affected by the incident after police were called at 6.35am.
