Lagos/UNI/Xinhua: At least five members of a family died and two others were injured in an accident in Nigeria's northwest state of Jigawa, confirmed a local police officer.

The road mishap occurred in a village along Dangyatin road in the Miga local government area of the state on Friday when the driver lost control and fell into the water, said Lawan Shisu Adam, a police spokesperson in Jigawa.

Among the dead was a toddler, the police said, noting that the two injured were admitted and treated at a local hospital.

According to Shisu, the corpses were released to their relatives for burial, adding that further investigation into the incident was being conducted.

Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Nigeria, often caused by overloading, bad road conditions, and reckless driving.
