Over forty suspected members of criminal groups detained in Italy, Spain : Spanish Police

Madrid, May 11 (Sputnik/UNI) Italian and Spanish law enforcement agencies carried out a joint operation and detained 44 members of criminal groups, the Spanish police said on Saturday.

The detained people are suspected of being members of the Italian 'Ndrangheta gang and Spanish Castanas group, according to police. Moreover, several people were placed on the wanted list.

The security forces have carried out 34 searches, having confiscated 2.7 tonnes of hashish, 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) of marijuana, 75,500 euros ($85,000), 12 firearms and 14 cars.

The members of the criminal groups are suspected of organizing drug trafficking from Spain to other European countries, primarily, to Italy.
