Russia starts exporting Solntsepek rocket launch systems to Saudi Arabia

Moscow, Apr 10 (Sputnik/UNI) Russia has started to deliver Solntsepek multi-barrel rocket launch systems (MBRL) to Saudi Arabia under the 2017 contract, a source in the defence industry told Sputnik Wednesday.

"The exports of TOS-1A Solntsepek to Saudi Arabia have been started. The first batch of the system has already been delivered to the kingdom," the source said.

Moscow and Riyadh agreed on the supply of Russia's TOS-1A systems to the Middle Eastern country back in 2017. The accord also included S-400 air defence missile systems, Kornet-EM anti-tank guided missile systems, AGS-30 automatic grenade launchers and Kalashnikov AK-103 assault rifles.

Russia’s unique TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system Solntsepek is capable of effectively hitting a potential enemy at a distance of up to 3.7 miles. It is capable of launching its rockets within 6 seconds.

The system consists of a so-called combat vehicle (based on the T-72 tank), two TZM-T re-supply vehicles and a set of rockets. Its advantages include high maneuverability and mobility.

The systems are currently deployed by Algeria, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Syria.
