Mogadishu, Jan 26 (IBNS): Militants attacked a hotel in Mogadishu, capital of Somalia, and killed over 20 people, according to media reports on Thursday.

Ambulance workers in the Somali capital have told the BBC they have counted 28 dead bodies following a bomb attack by militants.

Although no official confirmation has been received about those injured or dead, the BBC reported that the ambulance workers have said  that 43 others, including seven journalists, were injured after bombs exploded at the Dayah hotel.

The hotel, not far from the country's presidential palace, is said to be popular with dignitaries.

According to local reports, the attackers blasted their way into the hotel with a vehicle laden with explosives. Soon after the hotel blast, another vehicle exploded killing and wounding more people in the area.

The Islamist militant group al-Shabab has said it carried out the attack, reported the BBC.

According to Somalian government sources, the building has been secured and the attackers killed by security forces, BBC reported.
