Ukrainian forces wrest over 30 towns from Russians

Kyiv: Ukrainian troops have regained control over 30 towns and settlements causing Russian forces to retreat from the Kyiv region, Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych said on Saturday.

However, while Ukrainian forces may have reclaimed more territory near the capital, more intense fighting would take place in other areas of the country, Arestovych told local television.

"Let's have no illusions - there are still heavy battles ahead for the south, for Mariupol, for the east of Ukraine," BBC quoted Arestovych as saying.

As per the BBC report, it's now been one week since the Russian military officials announced their plan to refocus the invasion on "liberating" the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.
