Wholesale inflation increases 0.58% in November

New Delhi/IBNS: The wholesale inflation jumped 0.58% in November, government data released on Monday revealed.

Wholesale inflation, which was 0.16% in Oct worsened in Nov. It is measured by on the basis of the Wholesale Price Index(WPI).

Food inflation calculated from WPI Food Index worsened from 7.65% to 9.02% in Nov, the data reflected. WPI Food Index includes food articles from the primary articles group and food products from the manufactured products category.

Earlier, separate data had shown consumer inflation rose to 5.54%, which is the highest in the last 40 months. The jump is attributed to high food prices in the country.

Consumer inflation indicates the rate of increase in consumer prices.

Meanwhile, retail inflation also remained higher than the Reserve Bank of India's medium-term goal of 4 per cent for two months at a stretch.

The central bank keeps track of consumer inflation data to formulate its monetary policy.
