Elon Musk first to have net worth over $300 billion; more than value of Ford, GM, and Volkswagen combined

Elon Musk has become the first person to be worth over $300 billion as his fortune surged by more than $10 billion in a day after Tesla became the first automaker to be valued over a trillion dollars, media reports said.

Musk's net worth has also crossed that value of Ford, GM, and Volkswagen combined together.

GM has a market capitalization of $78.74 billion, Ford has a market capitalization of just $68.23 billion and Volkswagen has a market capitalization of $140.87 billion.

His individual net worth is also more than Daimler group and BMW group - both stand at $107.01 billion and $66.16 billion.

Musk's net worth jumped as Hertz, an American car rental company, ordered 100,000 vehicles from Tesla.

Amazon founder and chairman Jeff Bezos is behind Musk at $199 though he was the first person to cross the $200 billion mark.

Tesla became the fifth American company to be worth more than a trillion after Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, and Google parent Alphabet.

Musk's worth is also now more than the annual GDP of countries like Egypt, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Greece, Qatar, and Finland.
