Nvidia partnering with Reliance to build AI infra in India: Jensen Huang
Mumbai/IBNS: Jensen Huang, the CEO of American chip maker Nvidia, announced on Thursday (Oct. 24) that the company is collaborating with Reliance Industries to develop artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in India.
During a conversation with Huang in Mumbai, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani emphasized India’s strong digital infrastructure.
“Apart from the US and China, India has the best digital connectivity infrastructure,” Ambani said.
Huang highlighted the rapid growth in India’s computing capacity, stating, “By the end of this year, we will have nearly 20 times more compute here in India than just over a year ago.”
The Nvidia CEO referred to the ongoing expansion of computing infrastructure in the country.
Ambani expressed confidence in Nvidia, drawing a parallel with Jio’s success in revolutionizing telecommunications.
“Counting on Nvidia to deliver quality AI infrastructure just as Jio did in telecom,” Ambani said.
Huang acknowledged India’s potential, given its large population and talent pool of computer engineers.
He added, “This is an extraordinary opportunity. I am honored and privileged to partner with you for this,” addressing Ambani.
Last year, in September, Reliance and Nvidia pledged to build AI supercomputers in India and develop large language models tailored to local languages.
Around the same time, Nvidia also announced a similar collaboration with the Tata Group.
