Ness Wadia will continue to fulfill all duties: Wadia Group
New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) Pointing out that the sentence awarded to Indian businessman and cricket team Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia was a suspended one, the Wadia Group on Tuesday said he would continue to discharge all his duties both within the Group and outside.
In a statement following reports that Mr Wadia has been sentenced to a two-year jail term, which was suspended for five years, by a Japan court for possessing drugs during a holiday to the country, the Wadia Group said,''Ness Wadia is in India. The judgement is clear. It is a suspended sentence.
Hence it will not impact Ness Wadia in the discharge of any of his responsibilities and he will continue to play the role that he has done hitherto, both within the Group and outside.''
The Sapporo District Court handed him a two-year prison sentence, which was suspended for five years.
Ness Wadia, the eldest son of Nusli Wadia, was arrested in early March at New Chitose Airport in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido for carrying around 25 gm drugs.
Ness Wadia is a director of all the major units of the family group, including biscuit giant Britannia Industries and budget airline GoAir.
Soon after the news broke, the shares of companies in the Wadia Group declined by several points.
