Mumbai, May 29 (IBNS): Although the Indian market was somewhat volatile on Monday, the NSE Nifty managed to close above 9,600 mark for the first time, according to media reports.

Market experts believe that a correction in the price of select bank and tech stocks, however, limited the upside.

The BSE Sensex was up 81.07 points to 31,109.28 and the NSE Nifty was up 9.80 points at 9,604.90.

Some of the key stocks that gained on Monday were HDFC, Power Grid Corp, HUL, Cipla, ITC, Bharti Infratel and Reliance while Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, Adani Ports, BHEL, ICICI, Yes Bank and SBI reported a decline.
