Sensex down over 500 points

Mumbai/UNI: The BSE Sensex on Friday dropped 507.26 points below 60,000 at 59,697.80 in opening trade on weak global peers.

The Nifty too slid 134 pts at 17,757.50.

The sensex registered intra day high and low at 60,166.90 and 59,543.01 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded intra day high and low at 17,884.75 and 18,715.55 pts respectively.

The Mid Cap fell by 0.51 pc and small Cap by 0.79 pc.

The sensex which was slumped over 700 pts on Wednesday, remained under pressure today too, as there was no trading on Thursday for 'Republic Day'.

The sectoral indices that fell were Telecommunications, Utilities and Bankex stocks.

The losers were ICICI Bank by 2.66 pc to Rs 832.55, HDFC by 2.17 pc to Rs 2651.35, Axis Bank by 1.83 pc to Rs 875.40 and SBI by 1.83 pc to Rs 558.40.

The gainers were Tata Motors by 7.08 pc to Rs 448.65, ITC by 2.62 pc to Rs 348.55, M& M by 1.78 pc to Rs 1334.70 and Tata Steel by 0.16 pc to Rs 122.40.
