Emergency declared in FTII: Students
Pune, Aug 19 (IBNS) Protesting the arrest of five of their mates, the agitating students of Pune's FTII have alleged that an "Emergency" has been declared in the prestigious institute for film and television studies which has been going through a turmoil for more than two months.
FTII Wisdom Tree, a community created by the institute's students on Facebook has asked: "Dear Government,Are these five people really worth all this chaos?"
The reaction comes on the 69th day of their agitation and hours after the midnight crackdown in which five FTII students were arrested by police following a complaint by institute's director Prashant Pathrabe.
The students have been on a strike protesting the government's decision to appoint Gajendra Gadkar as the institute's chief.
The FTII director called police after he was allegedly held captive in his office for seven hours on Monday by students who refused to let him go until they were heard.
Pathrabe's First Information Report names 17 students, including three girls who have not been arrested till now.
