Final year classes of educational institutions to reopen in Assam from Sep 6

Guwahati/IBNS: The Assam government has decided to reopen the educational institutions for physical classes in Higher Secondary and Post Graduate level in the state from Sept 6.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the Assam Health department on Wednesday issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) allowing to reopen educational institutions of the final year classes in Class 12, TDC final year and Post-Graduate final year from September 6.

“The state Health department is monitoring and management of the COVID-19 situation in the state. Final decision or reopening the schools and colleges will be taken by the Health department. The Health department has issued a SOP today and they have communicated to us that the classes of the final year in Class 12, TDC final year and PG final year will be allowed to reopen from September 6. Also this is to be ensured that all the students, teachers and other staff, non-teaching staff all are vaccinated at least one dose of the vaccine,” Ranoj Pegu said.

The Assam Education minister further said that, for reopening the hostels it is required that all boarders shall have to have two doses of the vaccine.

“The special vaccination camps for teachers, other staff, non-teaching staff, students are going on in block level, district level, elementary education offices, and university campuses across the state. This special vaccination drive will be continued till September 5. The Health department will issue subsequent SOP after monitoring the situation,” Ranoj Pegu said.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Wednesday issued a revised COVID-19 SOP for both rural and urban areas in the state and the consolidated directive came into force with effect from 11 am on Sept 1.

According to the new directives of the state government, the physical classes for the post graduate, graduate, higher secondary final year, GNM/Nursing courses and that of technical institutions shall be allowed for students having at least single dose vaccine.

Before the start of physical classes there will be a 3 day vaccination drive for students, faculty and staff, the hostels of the educational institutions are allowed to open only for the post graduate, graduate and higher secondary final year students with fully vaccinated residents.

Other directives of the state government are – night curfew time will be from 9 pm to 5 am across the state, accordingly, all work places (Government & private offices / establishment) will function as per usual working hours but not beyond 8 pm, pillion riding on motorcycles shall be allowed with at least single vaccinated persons and compulsory wearing of mask.

Intra-district transport with 100 percent seating capacity shall be allowed for passengers having at least a single dose of vaccine while no standing passenger shall be allowed. For standing passengers a heavy fine will be imposed and driving license of drivers/registration of vehicles carrying standing passengers will be cancelled.

Inter-district passenger transport with 100 percent seating capacity shall be allowed for passengers having at least a single dose of vaccine, no standing passengers shall be allowed.
