Over 40,000 COVID-19 cases recorded in India in single day 

With over 40,000 registered in a single-day, the number of fresh COVID-19 cases in India now stands at 1118042.

India recorded 40,425 cases in the past 24 hours.

The death toll due to the disease is currently 27497.

Number of active cases in the country is currently 390459.

The number of recovered persons from the disease is 700086.

Covid-19: Two deaths and 32 more positive cases in Meghalaya

Two more patients died and 32 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Sunday in Meghalaya, taking the number of fatalities and the active cases of the viral infection to four and 397 respectively.

Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the two deceased include a geologist of the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and a head constable of Border Security Force (BSF) succumbed to COVID-19 in the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) here in the wee hours of Sunday.

War said that 40-year-old Banteilang R. Syngai, a senior geologist of the Geological Survey of India (GSI) posted in Kolkata, had returned to Meghalaya and was admitted at NEIGRIHMS on July 5 with complaints of pain in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen.

Syngai was diagnosed as a case of acute “Calculus Cholecystitis” and also subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

"On July 16 and 17, Syngai tested negative for COVID-19, but however developed sudden onset respiratory failure on July 18 and was initially managed on non-invasive ventilation but did not improve and was subsequently incubated," Dr. War said.

"His respiratory failure worsened and he developed respiratory and cardiac arrest. CPR was given according to ACLS protocol but he could not be revived," the medical official informed.

47-year-old BSF Head Constable Nandeshwar Deury, who was a known Type II diabetic, had tested positive for COVID-19 on July 4.

"He was in acute respiratory distress syndrome, with severe sepsis and multi-organ failure. He did not improve with treatment. He developed respiratory and cardiac failure which did not improve with resuscitative efforts and expired," Dr War informed.

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Syngai was laid to rest at Nongsder Presbyterian cemetery in Ri-Bhoi district, while the remains of Head Constable Deury were cremated at the electric crematorium in Upper Mawprem in Shillong.

As on Sunday evening, 32 more fresh cases include 29 BSF troopers from Mawpat and two civilians from East Khasi Hills district and one from Khanapara in Ri-Bhoi district.

East Khasi Hills district has the highest number of active cases at 343 (268 BSF, others 61, armed forces - 14), 36 in Ri Bhoi, 11 in West Garo Hills, two each in in East Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills and one each in East Garo Hills and North Garo Hills.

The overall COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya has climbed up to 450 that include 49 persons have recovered so far from the viral infection.

“We are thinking to declare the BSF Mawpat as a containment zone. However we have to take in consideration of other logistics and difficulties that may arise if we declare the whole area as a containment zone but we will do this in consultation with the BSF and that call will be taken by the State government,” Dr. War said.

The Meghalaya government has already declared the BSF Meghalaya Frontier headquarters at Umpling as a containment zone following a spurt of active COVID-19 cases.  

COVID-19: More than 23,600 cured in last 24 hrs; recovery rate at 62.86 pc

More than 23,600 people in the country have been cured from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Sunday.

'The last 24 hours saw a sharp increase of 23,672 COVID patients recovering. The gap between recovered patients and active COVID-19 cases has further increased to 3,04,043, ' the Ministry said in a statement here.

'The total number of recovered cases is 6,77,422. The recovery rate as of now is at 62.86 per cent,' the Ministry said.

Medical attention is being provided to all 3,73,379 active cases, in hospitals and home isolation, it said.

According to the Ministry, proactive measures of Central and State/UT governments of aggressive testing and timely diagnosis has helped in detecting cases early.

Effective clinical management of the moderate and severe cases through a well executed Standard of Care protocol has ensured high rate of recovery among the COVID patients, the Ministry said.

The country's testing infrastructure has been substantially ramped up. The testing strategy prescribed by ICMR allows all registered medical practitioners to recommend testing.

The Rapid Antigen Point of Care (POC) Test coupled with the facilitation of widespread gold-standard RT-PCR based testing by States/UTs has resulted in a surge in the number of samples tested. Total 3,58,127 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours.

With the total of 1,37,91,869 samples tested the testing per million (TPM) for India has reached 9994.1.

Consistently expanding diagnostic lab network comprises of 1262 labs, including 889 labs in the government sector and 373 private labs.

These include 648 Real-Time RT PCR based testing labs (Govt: 397 + Private: 251), 510 TrueNat based testing

labs (Govt: 455 + Private: 55) and 104 CBNAAT based testing labs (Govt: 37 + Private: 67), added the Ministry.

Delhi records 1,211 nCoV cases, recovery rate improves to 83.99 pc

National capital's COVID tally has reached 1,22,793 on Sunday, after the city recorded a fresh spike of 1,211 infections in the past 24 hours, while the recovery rate improved to 83.99 per cent, state health bulletin said here.

The city continued to register more recoveries than the number of fresh cases with 1,860 Covid patients being cured since Saturday, as per government data.
The total number of recoveries in the city now stand at 1,03,134.

Meanwhile, active cases in the capital have decreased further and presently stand at 16,031, the government data said.

Pandemic deaths across the city till date have now reached 3628, after 31 more people lost their battle to the lethal virus since Saturday.

The patients under home isolation have further dropped a bit more in number as compared to yesterday, and now, the figure currently stands at 8819.

There are as many as 685 containment zones across the city. Several more places were added to the list in the past 24 hours.

Total number of tests done so far in the national capital till date stand at 8,18,989.  

Spike in Covid-19 cases in West Bengal 'cause of concern': Centre

The central government has expressed concern over the spike in Novel Coronavirus cases in the eastern state of West Bengal.

In a letter to the Health Department of West Bengal, joint secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Lav Agarwal, said, "Owing to the increasing number of cases observed in Kolkata, there is a need to develop a robust strategy to contain the spread of infection."

"...An increasing trend in case positivity rate in the last 3 weeks is also a cause of concern," he added.

Apart from Kolkata, Agarwal said the increase in positive cases in Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas as well as "emerging hotspots" Jhargram, Purulia, Nadia, Medinipur East and Hoogly "need immediate attention."

Agarwal has also stated in the letter that West Bengal's testing rate is still low.

"The overall testing remains very low vis a vis national average," said Agarwal in the letter.

West Bengal reports biggest single-day spike in Covid cases with 2,198 infections

In more worries for the eastern state, West Bengal on Saturday reported the biggest single-day spike in Novel Coronavirus cases as 2,198 people across the state were infected with the contagion in the last 24 hours.

This is also the first time the number of daily cases crossed 2,000 in the state.

The overall Covid tally touched 40,209.

27 deaths in the last one day took the Covid toll to 1,076.

Chinese mainland reports 6 new imported COVID-19 cases

The Chinese mainland reported six new imported COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of imported cases to 2,004, the National Health Commission said Saturday.

Three of the new imported cases were reported in Guangdong Province, two in Shandong Province and one in Fujian Province, the commission said in its daily report.

Canadian officials identify 354 confirmed coronavirus cases in indigenous communities

Officials have identified 354 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Canadian First Nations communities, Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) said in a statement on Saturday.

"On First Nations communities in provinces, as of July 16, ISC is aware of: 352 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19; 30 hospitalizations; 314 recovered cases," the statement.

First phase trial of India's COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin begins on 375 people: Report

India's Bharat Biotech International Limited, which claimed to have created the country's first potential indigenous coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccine, has said the first phase of testing it on 375 people has started, media reports said.

Hindustan, Hindustan Time’s sister publication, reported that Bharat Biotech has said that human trials of Covaxin started on July 15. The Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company has jointly developed the vaccine with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Virology (NIV).

Twelve hospitals in different parts of the country are carrying out this test, reports Hindustan Times.

The indigenous, inactivated vaccine has been developed and manufactured in Bharat Biotech’s BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Level 3) High Containment facility located in Genome Valley, Hyderabad, India.

COVID-19 death toll in India touches 26273

India recorded 34,884 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the country to 10,38,716, official data released on Saturday said.

The country recorded 671 deaths due to COVID-19, taking the death toll to 26,273.

According to the Ministry of Health website, the number of active cases in the country is now 3,58,692.

So far, 6,53,750 patients have been cured or discharged.

Covid: Assam reports biggest single-day spike with fresh 1,218 cases, tally touches 21,864

Assam on Saturday reported its biggest single-day spike in Novel Coronavirus cases by reporting new 1,218 infections in the last 24 hours.

The overall Covid tally in the state touched 21,864.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said 570 of 1,218 cases were reported from Guwahati alone.

91 test positive for Coronavirus, 3 die in UT since last 24 hrs

As many as 91 persons tested positive for the Coronavirus while three patients died in the Union Territory since the last 24 hours.

With new cases reported, the total number of active cases now stood at 793.

According to the COVID-19 status released by the health department here on Friday, 79 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 9 in Karaikal region and three in Yanam region.

25 new Covid-19 cases in Beed dist

With 25 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Friday, a tally reached to 305 in Beed district of Marathwada.

According to the district health administration, of 25 cases, 12 from Parli town, 9 from Beed city and one each from Gevrai, Aasti, Majalgaon and Ambejogai taluka.

Of 305 patients,143 were cured. Meanwhile, 12 prople lost their lives.

While remaining 150 are being treated in hospitals, It added.

3 more persons die due to COVID-19, death toll mounts to 225 in J&K

Three more persons including-- a 58-year-old man from Srinagar, a 55-year-old man from Budgam and a 65-year-old man from Pulwama -- died due to COVID-19 in Kashmir valley, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 225.

With these deaths, 190 people have lost their lives due to infection in 43 days, and 210 people in 57 day in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have crossed 12,200-mark.

India witnesses highest single-day spike, death toll stands at 25602

Witnessing the highest single-day spike of 34,956 cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India touched 10,03,832, as per data released on Friday.

There are 3,42,473 active cases in India at present.

With 687 new deaths recorded, the death toll due to the highly infectious disease now stands at 25602.

So far, 635756 people have been cured.

Bengal sees highest-ever single-day spike of 1690 cases, 23 more deaths reported, recovery rate declines to 59.29 per cent

With the highest one-day spike of 1690 infections, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has reached 36,117, including 13,679 active ones, 1023 deaths and 21,415 recoveries, the state health department said on Thursday.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) department, in the last 24 hours, 23 more deaths were reported while 735 Covid-19 patients were discharged from different health facilities in the state after treatment, though the recovery rate has further dropped to 59.29 per cent from 60.06 per cent.

The bulletin stated that of the 1690 fresh infections, state capital Kolkata and its adjacent district North 24 Parganas reported the highest number of cases-- 496 and 403 respectively.

Sourav Ganguly in home quarantine after elder brother Snehasish tests Covid-19 positive

Indian cricket board president Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday went into home quarantine as per health protocols after his elder brother Snehasish Ganguly tested positive for Covid-19, media reports said.

Snehasish, a former Bengal cricketer and present Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary, has been shifted to a hospital.

Sourav's elder brother was suffering from fever for the last few days.

India's highest single-day spike of over 32k cases shoot up tally to 9,68,876

India recorded its highest ever single-day spike of 32,695 cases in the past 24 hrs that shot up the coronavirus tally to 9,68,876 on Thursday, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its daily update.

The death toll went up to 24915, including 606 fatalities since Wednesday.

Out of the total cases, 6,12,814 have been cured, while 3,31,146 are currently active.

In the past 24 hours, 20,783 patients were declared cured, taking India's recovery rate to 63.25 per cent.

Assam COVID-19 tally surges to 18,666, death toll mounts to 46

Assam has registered more fatalities due to COVID-19  and the state has also reported more positive cases for the new virus.

10 persons died due to COVID-19 infection in the state in the last 48 hours.

According to the state Health department, six people died due to COVID-19 infection on Tuesday while four others died on Monday.

The state death toll for COVID-19 has now mounted to 46.

Assam has registered 859 positive cases for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.

Aurangabad's Covid tally increases to 9,104

With 39 people testing positive for the Novel Coronavirus, Maharashtra's Aurangabad tally rose to 9,104 on Wednesday, health officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 11 were conducted through antigen while rest of the clinical tests, which includes 21 from the city area and seven from rural, said district administration sources this morning.

Meanwhile, 5,355 have recovered while 364 deaths have been reported so far.

Aurangabad entered its sixth day of curfew today.

India witnesses biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases with over 30,000 cases in 24 hours

The biggest single-day spike in Novel Coronavirus cases in India was recorded on Wednesday as over 30,000 people were infected with the contagion in the last 24 hours.

As many as 30,142 new cases were reported between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, taking the overall tally to 9,36,181.

With the addition of 582 fatalities, the country's toll touched 24,309.

While 5,92,032 people have recovered from the disease, there are 3,19,840 active Covid patients in the country till Wednesday.

Maharashtra: Aurangabad COVID tally rises to 8,882

With as many as 68 positive cases of Covid-19, this Maharashtra district's tally rose to 8,882 on Tuesday, health officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 17 have been reported from Aurangabad Municipal Corporation area and 51 from rural parts of the district, said district administration sources.

In the wake of rising numbers of cases across the rural parts, curfew has been imposed in Sillod and Paithan towns from today onwards.

India sees another massive spike in COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, death toll touches 23727

The number of COVID-19 cases in India moved up by 28,498 cases in 24 hours to touch 9,06,752 on Tuesday.

According to Indian Health Ministry update, 553 deaths were reported in the same period.

Russian scientists successfully complete world’s first Covid-19 vaccine trial

A Russian university has successfully completed the clinical trials of a vaccine against the Novel Coronavirus on volunteers, media reports said.

Clinical trials of vaccine against the novel coronavirus were completed on volunteers at Sechenov University, and the results of research proved the medication’s effectiveness, chief researcher Elena Smolyarchuk told TASS on Sunday.

"The research has been completed and it proved that the vaccine is safe. The volunteers will be discharged on July 15 and July 20," Smolyarchuk, who heads the Center for Clinical Research on Medications at Sechenov University told TASS.

The volunteers will remain under medical supervision on an out-patient basis after being discharged, she said.

UK Reports 21 New COVID19 Deaths, Sharp Drop Compared to Day Before - Department of Health

Over 20 new coronavirus-related deaths were registered in the United Kingdom in the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s total COVID-19 death toll up to over 44,800, according to the Department of Health and Social Care.

In the past 24 hours, 650 new coronavirus cases and 21 new COVID-19 fatalities were confirmed in the UK. The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 289,603 while the total death toll is at 44,819, a Sunday statement from the Department of Health and Social Care obtained by Sputnik says.

Recovery rate of COVID-19 in Bhutan at over 90 percent

Bhutan's Ministry of Health reported Monday that 76 of the country's total 82 positive COVID-19 patients have been declared recovered as of Sunday, pushing the recovery rate to over 90 percent.

This brings the total active COVID-19 positive cases in the country to just six. Bhutan has not seen a single death from COVID-19.

No positive case was recorded within the past 24 hours in the country, as per the ministry. On Friday two females returning from the Middle East have tested positive for the COVID-19.

Global COVID-19 Case Total Rises By Single-Day Record of 230,370 – WHO

The global single-day record for new COVID-19 cases has been broken once again as 230,370 new positive tests were reported worldwide over the past 24 hours, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday.

According to the organization, the global case total now stands at 12.55 million. The previous daily record of 228,102 was set on Friday.

More than half of the new positive tests, 133,486 in total, were reported in the United States, the WHO said. A further 70,398 new cases were also reported in Brazil.

India witnessed another day of massive spike in the COVID-19 cases with  28,701 recorded in the past 24 hours.

The country also registered 500 deaths related to the highly infectious disease.

As per Indian Health Ministry website, there are 301609 active cases in the country at present.
