Imphal/IBNS: Eleven suspected Kuki militants have been killed in an encounter with the security forces after a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) post was attacked in the Jiribam district on Monday, media reports said.

The armed militants had attacked the CRPF post at Jakuradhor and Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam.

One CRPF constable, named Sanjeev Kumar, was injured in the attack.

Kumar, who sustained a bullet injury, was evacuated to Silchar Medical College in Assam and is under treatment.

Two elderly persons were found dead at a house which was set on fire by the militants in Jiribam.

The Manipur Police in an X post said, "The attack was fiercely retaliated by CRPF and Civil Police. After 40 – 45 minutes of heavy exchange of fire, the situation was brought under control."

"Operations in and around Jakuradhor, under Borobekra Police Station, Jiribam District continues to flush out armed militants. Reinforcement teams consisting of Assam Rifles, CRPF and Civil Police have been rushed there."

The Kuki civil society has called a bandh in the hill areas of the northeastern state from 5 am to 6 pm on Tuesday.

Last week, two civilians were killed in Manipur.

A 31-year-old woman was killed in an attack in Jiribam while a 34-year-old woman succumbed to bullet injuries in Bishnupur.
