Internet access part of freedom of speech: Supreme Court
New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Friday said the Internet access is a part of the freedom of speech guaranteed under Article 19 of the Constitution, delivering its judgement on the legality of the restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir.
A three-judge bench led by Justice N.V. Ramana is passing the judgement.
The plea was filed by Anuradha Bhasin, the Editor of The Kashmir Times.
Bhasin had said the restrictions had crippled the freedom of press, affected communication and other services.
The government had maintained normalcy has now returned in Jammu and Kashmir.
The restrictions were imposed on Aug 5 when the Centre scrapped Articles 370 and 35A to withdraw the special status which was enjoyed by Jammu and Kashmir since Independence in 1947.
