Those that launched 'False Flag' effort got stinging response at UN: Syed Akbaruddin jibes at China

New Delhi/IBNS: After China's bid to raise the Jammu and Kashmir issue at the United Nations was rejected by several nations, India's permanent member to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin, took a dig at Beijing by posting a picture of the National Flag on Twitter.

Akbaruddin shared the National Flag and said, "Today @UN...our flag is flying high. Those that launched a “False Flag” effort got a stinging response from our many friends..."

Pakistan's efforts to raise Jammu and Kashmir at the UN Security Council through China crumbled once again on Wednesday as most members of the top world body said it was not the place to discuss the issue, sources told NDTV on Thursday.

"Pakistan's practice of using false pretences to distract from addressing the malaise that afflicts it, has run its course today," India's Permanent Representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin told NDTV.

The meeting was called after, Pakistan's all-weather friend China pushed for it. A similar meeting was held in August after the government scrapped Article 370 which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two union territories.

But, that meeting failed to draw an adverse reaction from the participating UNSC members- France, Russia, the US and the UK, except China which had called it.

Another meeting, which was scheduled for December, did not take place.

So far, the four countries have maintained that scrapping of Article 370 is India's internal matter.

Except China, the four members of the UNSC have also supported India's stand that the disputes between India and Pakistan are the bilateral issues of the two nations.

In August last year, after the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) closed door meeting on Kashmir, Akbaruddin told a news conference at the UN: "Our national position was and remains that the matters related to Article 370 are entirely an internal matter of India. These have no external ramifications."

He had said the recent decisions by the Indian government are to promote good governance.

"We are gratified that the Security Council in its closed consultations appreciated these efforts, acknowledged them and indicated that this is the direction in which they would like the international committee to move," he said.
