After Yogi Adityanath's order, migrant workers from UP can only be hired with permission

Lucknow/IBNS: In the backdrop of the migrant workers' crisis during the lockdown, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday ruled that no such worker from his state can be hired by other parts of the country without his government's permission.

Adityanath said the decision was taken because of the way the migrant workers were treated in other states during the anti-Covid-19 lockdown.

The CM said as quoted by media, "I have instructed my officers that there should be a commission made to get them employment within Uttar Pradesh itself."

"If some other state wants this manpower, we will give them insurance and social security. But that state will not be able to take people from here without our permission because of the way our people have been treated in other states," he added.

However, Adityanath did not clarify how his government will recognise whether the permission was taken or how the state will monitor the migrant workers' movement.

Since the commencement of the lockdown, the migrant workers, who were stranded in various parts of the country, struggled to head back to their home states.

Despite the governments' assurance of enough food supply, the workers took to their feet to cover hundreds of kilometers in a bid to reach homes.
