Guwahati/IBNS: The flood situation in Assam is gradually improving as the waters are receding in many parts of the state, but over 27.63 lakh people of 26 districts are still affected in the deluge.
Three persons drowned in flood waters on Saturday taking the state's death toll to 79.
Two persons drowned in Barpeta district and one in South Salmara district.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 27.63 lakh people from 26 districts are still affected in the current wave of flood.
4.69 lakh are affected in the deluge in Dhubri district alone followed by 4.48 lakh people in Goalpara, 3.54 lakh people in Barpeta, 3.51 lakh people in Morigaon, 2.25 lakh people in South Salmara districts.
2678 villages under 79 revenue circles are still under water and the flood waters submerged 1.16 lakh hectares of agricultural lands.
On the other hand, 47,465 people have taken shelter at 290 relief camps.
Nearly 17 lakh domestic animals are still affected in the current wave of flood.
The water levels of Brahmaputra river is still flowing above the danger level mark at Nimatighat in Jorhat district, Tezpur in Sonitpur district, Goalpara and Dhubri district.
