Ram Mandir's 'Bhoomi Pujan' should become occasion for national unity: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

New Delhi/Ayodhya/IBNS: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday said the much-awaited "Bhoomi Pujan" of Ram Mandir (Ram Temple) in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya must become an occasion for "national unity, friendship and cultural congregation", prompting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to take a jibe at the grand old party.

Priyanka, who is the general secretary of the party for eastern Uttar Pradesh, in a tweet said, "Simplicity, courage, restraint, sacrifice, commitment, are the essence of the name Deenbandhu Rama. Ram is with everyone, Ram is with everyone. With the message and grace of Lord Rama and Mother Sita, the Bhoomipujan ceremony of the temple of Ramlala should become an occasion for national unity, fraternity and cultural congregation."

Taking a jibe at the Congress, BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya told an English news channel, "The Congress was in power for years but they had done nothing to resolve the issue of Ram Mandir. Now they are taking a different stance for their petty politics."

Uttar Pradesh is gearing up for the "Bhoomi Pujan" of Ram Mandir which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present at the event, several top BJP leaders will give it a miss due to the Novel Coronavirus spread.

While Union Home Minister Amit Shah has quarantined himself after testing positive for Covid-19, senior BJP leader Uma Bharti has said she will be in Ayodhya but won't be on the stage as she is concerned over the PM's health in the wake of Coronavirus spread.

BJP veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, who were the pioneers in raising the Ram Mandir issue giving the BJP a momentum in the Indian politics, are also likely to skip the mega event.

Besides Modi, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust head Mahant Nrityagopal Das, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel will be on the stage.
