No truck with Bimal Gurung: GJM leader Binay Tamang ahead of meeting with Mamata

Kolkata/UNI: Hours ahead of his meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, GJM (Binay faction) leader Binay Tamang on Tuesday said he has no truck with Bimal Gurung, as the latter recently severed his link with the BJP and announced his allegiance towards the TMC supremo.

Binay Tamang, who is the city for talks with the chief minister at Nabanna later today, told a media conference this morning that his visit following an invitation from Mamata Banerjee regarding hills affairs in Darjeeling.

After August 2017 violent agitation in Darjeeling over Gorkhaland the issue, Binay Tamang, former lieutenant of Bimal Gurung, severed ties with the supreme GJM leader and became close to the chief minister, whose government slapped scores of critical cases against Gurung, including an anti-national act - Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Since then Gurung went underground and the absconder Gurung resurfaced after three years in Kolkata and announced to support Banerjee in 2021 assembly polls.

Gurung has been accused of regicide for the murder of SI Amitabh Mallick during violent agitation.

Tamang said he has no truck with Gurung, who has over 67 criminal cases.
