Home Minister Amit Shah directed attack on TMC in Tripura: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of directing an attack on the workers and leaders of her party Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Tripura.

After meeting her injured leaders in a hospital here, Banerjee said, "I believe the attack was carried out as per the directions given by the Home Minister (Amit Shah). Otherwise, the Tripura Chief Minister (Biplab Deb) would not have dared to do such an act."

"Some goons were even placed on seats next to Abhishek (Banerjee) on flight," she added.

The political slugfest between the TMC and Tripura's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) started last week after Banerjee's three youth leaders- Debangshu Bhattacharya, Sudip Raha and Jaya Dutta- were alleged attacked by the saffron party workers and supporters in Dhalai district.

Later, 14 TMC workers and leaders including Debangshu, Sudip and Jaya were arrested for violating COVID-19 norms.

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who flew to Tripura Sunday, camped himself at a police station, confronted with police officers, demanding an immediate release of his leaders.

The TMC leaders were released on bail in the evening.

The incident occurred at a time the TMC is aiming to keep its footprint in Tripura with Abhishek giving a call to oust the BJP government in the next polls to be held in 2023.
