BJP appoints Sukanta Majumdar as new Bengal chief replacing Dilip Ghosh
Kolkata/IBNS: In a significant political move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Lok Sabha MP from West Bengal's Balurghat, Sukanta Majumdar, as the new state unit president, replacing controversial parliamentarian Dilip Ghosh.
Ghosh has been appointed the BJP's national vice president, a post which is held by several party leaders.
The reorganisation comes two days after BJP's Asansol MP Babul Supriyo dumped the party to join West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Though the BJP under Ghosh's leadership had managed to get a meteoric rise in the state politics winning 18 of 42 Lok Sabha seats in 2019, the saffron camp was decimated by the TMC in the 2021 assembly elections.
Congratulating both politicians, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari tweeted: "Heartiest congratulations to both Shri@DilipGhoshBJP for being appointed as National Vice President of @BJP4India & Shri @DrSukantaMajum1 for being appointed as President of @BJP4Bengal. I wish them very best & believe that both would give their best to strengthen the Party."

I wish them very best & believe that both would give their best to strengthen the Party.
Earlier, BJP national vice president Mukul Roy went back to his old party TMC weeks after Mamata Banerjee stormed back to power in 2021 stopping the Modi-Shah juggernaut.
