Rahul Gandhi to address media today for first time since Lok Sabha disqualification
New Delhi/IBNS: Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi will on Saturday address the media for the first time since he was disqualified from Parliament's lower house Lok Sabha, media reports said.
Rahul is scheduled to hold a press conference here at 1 pm.
In his first response to the disqualification, Rahul had tweeted, "I am fighting for the voice of India. I am ready to pay any cost."
मैं भारत की आवाज़ के लिए लड़ रहा हूं।
— Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) March 24, 2023
मैं हर कीमत चुकाने को तैयार हूं।
Rahul was disqualified on Friday after a court in Gujarat's Surat convicted him in a defamation case and sentenced the leader to two-year jail.
The defamation case was filed over Rahul's 2019 remark on Modi surname.
Shortly after he was convicted, Rahul, who was elected from Kerala's Wayanad, was granted bail.
He was convicted under the IPC Section 504.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha poll campaign, Rahul had said, "How come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname."
A complaint, which was lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Purnesh Modi, had claimed Rahul had defamed the entire Modi community.
