New Delhi/UNI: India has donated 25 tonnes of medical aid to the people of violence-hit Sudan.

A tweet from the Indian Embassy in Khartoum said that the aid was delivered at the Port of Sudan via a special C17 flight, and handed over to Sudanese authorities by Indian Ambassador BS Mubarak.

“Government of India donated 25 tons of Medical aid to the people of Sudan. A special Indian Airforce C-17 flight arrived at Port Sudan airport on 18 May 2023 at 3.50 p.m carrying the medical aid. The medical aid was handed over by Ambassador of India Mr. B.S Mubarak.”

India evacuated over 3,000 of its nationals from Sudan after war broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on 15 April.

According to the UN, since the fighting began, nearly a million people have been displaced, with the number of those internally displaced rising to 730,000 while 220,000 have fled to neighboring countries.

“Today 25 million people, more than half the population of Sudan, need humanitarian aid and protection,” said Ramesh Rajasingham, Head and Representative of OCHA in Geneva.
