BJP govt high on promises and low on delivery: Derek O'Brien on 9 years of PM Modi regime

Kolkata/IBNS: Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien on Friday alleged that the nine years of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre was high on promises and low on delivery.

In a tweet, Derek said, "#9YearsOfModiGovernment. Nine years of failed promises and disastrous policy decisions."

"The floundering nine: Failing to check price rise. Failing to provide jobs. Destroying social harmony. Destroying federalism. Undermining the Constitution. Weakening India's institutions - Parliament to Election Commission. Misusing central agencies only to target opponents. Notebandi? Farm Bills? Anti Labour Code? Anti-Industry Disinvestment? Privatisation of profitable PSUs?" he stated.

"Nine years. High on promises. Low on delivery," Derek said adding, "Since 2014 Modi Govt has made a mockery of parliamentary process on several occasions."

Earlier commenting on the inauguration of the new Parliament building, he said the Trinamool Congress will boycott the event on Sunday.

"Boycott of #ParliamentBuilding opening by 20 parties representing the diversity and pluralism of India is a response to boycott of parliamentary traditions by an authoritarian govt. The ‘NDA statement’ pulled out by BJP is telling. A once large coalition now virtually extinct! Parliament is not just a new building; it is an establishment with old traditions, values, precedents and rules - it is the foundation of Indian democracy. PM Modi doesn’t get that. For him, Sunday’s inauguration of the new building is all about I, ME, MYSELF. So count us out. "

Nineteen opposition parties including Congress will boycott the inauguration of the country's new Parliament building on Sunday.

The parties include Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, DMK, Left, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Janata Dal (United), Nationalist Congress Party, Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena and others.

The boycott will mark the parties' protest against the inauguration of the new parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead of President Droupadi Murmu.

The boycott is widely seen as a step towards Opposition unity in the backdrop of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s defeat in Karnataka polls and eyeing the next year's General Elections.

The new building of Parliament will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday to mark nine years of his government.
