Bihar caste survey released, data shows 36 percent people belong to Extremely Backward Classes
Bihar released the result of a caste-based survey on Monday which showed 36 per cent of the population belong to the 'Extremely Backward Classes'.
The survey showed 27.1 per cent of people belong to 'Backward Classes'.
The population of Scheduled Castes is 2,56,89,820, which is 19.65 per cent of the total population while the population of Scheduled Tributes (STs) is 21,99,361 which is 1.68 per cent of the total population of the state.
The population of the unreserved category is 2,02,91,679 which is 15.52 percent of total population of the state.
In his post on X, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said he would soon convene an all-party meeting to discuss the issue.
Altogether 9 parties in the Assembly supported the resolution for caste census which was unanimously passed in both in Assembly and Bihar Legislative Council.
