Kolkata doctor rape-murder: CBI questions ex-RG Kar College principal Sandip Ghosh for second day in a row
Kolkata/IBNS: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is quizzing former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh for the second consecutive day on Saturday in connection with the probe into the rape and murder of a 31-year-old lady trainee doctor, media reports said.
Dr. Ghosh, who was quizzed by the CBI on Friday for long hours, told the media this morning, "I have not been arrested. I have been questioned. I can't reveal anything because the matter is under investigation."
The CBI officials took Dr. Ghosh, who was reluctant to join the probe, to CGO complex in Salt Lake for questioning in connection with the rape-murder case that has sent shockwaves across the country and triggered massive outrage.
Dr. Ghosh has come under the scanner after the victim's parents claimed they were initially informed by the hospital assistant super that their daughter was unwell and had committed suicide.
The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the CBI to at least quiz Dr. Ghosh at his residence after the former principal's lawyer said he was reluctant to join the probe out of insecurity.
Dr. Ghosh, who faced the ire for alleged mismanagement and financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, resigned from his post facing protests from the medical students.
Though he had resigned, the Mamata Banerjee government had controversially appointed him to a similar post at Calcutta National Medical College within a few hours.
The Calcutta High Court, which ordered a CBI probe into the case, lashed out at the government's move asked Dr. Ghosh to go on leave.
Slamming the state government and administration, the court wondered how Dr. Ghosh stepped down and was "rewarded with another responsibility?"
"...why do you protect (him)? Let him tell the truth... something is missing here," the court thundered as reported by NDTV.
The high court has asked for the case diary by 2 pm and directed the filing of Dr. Ghosh's resignation letter. "We want to see what he has written," said the court.
The trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which is located in North Kolkata's Belgachia area.
One person, a civic volunteer, has been arrested in connection with the case but protesting students as well as the victim's parents suspect more people are involved in the case.
