New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court has slammed Karnataka High Court judge, Justice Vedavyasachar Srishananda, over his controversial remarks referring to "Pakistan" and "undergarment" in a court hearing, media reports said.

Justice Srishananda referred to a Muslim-majority area in Bengaluru as "Pakistan". The video of his remark went viral as the court proceedings are now live-streamed.

The same judge told a female lawyer that she has knowledge about her opponent to an extent that she even knows the colour of his undergarment.

A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said there is a need to establish clear guidelines for constitutional court judges over their remarks in the courtroom.

CJI Chandrachud said as quoted by NDTV, "Attention has been drawn to media reports to the comments made by Justice...of Karnataka High Court during the court proceedings.

"We request the Karnataka High Court to submit a report after seeking instructions from the Chief Justice of the high court."

"We may lay down some basic guidelines," he added.

The CJI has asked the Karnataka High Court to file the report within two days. The hearing of the case will be held next Wednesday.

Slamming Justice Srishananda, senior advocate Indira Jaising, who is now representing the West Bengal junior doctors in the RG Kar rape-murder case, had posted on X, " We call upon the Chief Justice of India to take suo moto action agsinst this judge and send him for gender sensitisation training."
