2 injured as Navy's speed boat catches fire in Kolkata
According to reports, at around 7 am. in the morning, massive fire broke out in the speed boat used by the navy to patrol the Hooghly river (river Ganges), when it was parked near Prinsep Ghat in the city.
A mild explosion was also heard before the boat caught fire, according to eyewitness accounts.
As many as two fire tender engines rushed to the spot and doused the blaze, when the boat was completely gutted.
Senior officials of Indian Navy visited the scene later and claimed that the boat was hired from a private agency and it caught fire during maintenance works.
"No naval person was on board when the fire broke out and two staffers of the private agency, doing maintenance works, were injured in the incident, who have been admitted to a nearby army hospital," a senior Navy official told IBNS.
However, exact reason behind the fire has not been known yet, while the Navy has not officially ordered any probe into the matter so far.
