‘Super 30’ founder Anand Kumar fined Rs 50,000 by Gauhati High Court
Guwahati/IBNS: The Gauhati High Court has directed Anand Kumar, founder of the popular Super 30 education programme, to appear personally before the court on Nov 28 after he failed to appear on Tuesday as per its order in connection with a PIL filed by four students of IIT-Guwahati.
The Division Bench of Gauhati High Court comprising Chief Justice Ajai Lamba and Justice A M Bujarbaruah directed Anand Kumar to appear before the court on Nov 28.
The Court directed the founder of the Super 30 to compensate the five students from Patna and their guardians who were present in the court on Tuesday to pay Rs 10,000 each amounting to Rs 50,000.
“Yesterday he (Anand Kumar) filed an affidavit before the High Court and stating that he will unable to appear before the court today because he is out of the country. But the court feels that it was his duty to appear before the court following directive and he didn’t appear. The court directed him to appear again on November 28. Some of the students and guardians they came from Patna in respect of the PIL. The court directed Anand Kumar to give them Rs 10,000 each amounting Rs 50,000 to the five students who were there,” Amit Goyal, the counsel of the petitioners, said.
Senior Advocate Ashok Saraf also appeared for the petitioners while senior advocate Nilay Dutta appeared for Anand and K N Choudhary appeared for Abhayanand – a 1977 batch IPS officer and former DGP of Bihar, before the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday
Four students of IIT-Guwahati – Avinash Baro, Bikash Das, Monjit Doley and Dhaniram Taw had filed a PIL at the Gauhati High Court in September 2018 and they alleged that Anand Kumar is a fraud.
The students also alleged that, in 2018 IIT entrance examination, Anand Kumar claimed that 26 out of 30 students from his Super 30 had qualified the examination, but till now, he has not disclosed the students' names, who qualified the IIT entrance examination.
“The four students of IIT-Guwahati filed a PIL at the High Court in September 2018 and alleged that Anand Kumar is manipulating Super 30 results. He (Anand Kumar) claimed that, 26 out of his 30 students qualified for IIT. When he was asked to disclose the students' names, until today, he has not disclosed. Other allegations are that in the name of Super 30, he provided admission to the students in Ramanujam School of Mathematics, where he charged Rs 33,000 from each student,” Amit Goyal said.
One victim student Abhishek Sharma hailing 24 Parganas North In West Bengal said that, he was selected for Super 30, but Anand Kumar cheated him.
“I belong to a poor family. When I reached in Patna, I was asked to take admission in Ramanujam School of Mathematics and also asked to pay Rs 33,000. My mother had managed some money for me by mortgaging her jewellery and I also added my scholarship money. I attended the classes in the institute, but there was no educational environment especially for IIT preparation. After a week, finally, I had decided to leave it and asked Anand Kumar’s brother to return my money. But, I have not received a single penny from them till now. I am not only the single student, there are many other students who have been cheated,” Abhishek said.
‘Super 30’ is an educational programme started in Patna and it was co-founded by former DGP Abhayanand.
