Assam’s JMB operative arrested in Kerala

Guwahati, Feb 2 (IBNS): Continuing its operation against the Bangladesh based terrorist organization Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), security forces have arrested an operative of JMB from Kerala.

According to the reports, the Special Task Force of Kolkata police have arrested the JMB operative identified as Abdul Matin from Kerala’s Mallapuram area on Thursday.

Abdul Matin, hailing from Assam’s Barpeta district, had joined the terrorist outfit in 2010 when was studying at a madrasa in West Bengal.

Matin received training in making IEDs and was involved in the making of IEDs.

Abdul Matin had left West Bengal for Kerala after an IED went off on the first floor of a rented house at Khagragarh area in Burdwan town in West Bengal on Oct 2, 2014, resulting in the death of two suspected JMB terrorists.

Following the Burdwan blast, India’s premier investigating agency National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested several JMB terrorists from West Bengal, Assam and other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia on Saturday said that the Assam police have already sent a team to Kolkata to interrogate the arrested JMB operative.

“Following the clue of the Burdwan blast case, we had arrested people from Assam’s Barpeta area. At that time we are looking one fellow named Abdul Matin and now he has been caught in Kerala with the help of different agencies and he was brought to Kolkata. We will take him in our custody,” Kuladhar Saikia said.

On the other hand, the Assam DGP further said some people of Assam are showing their interest to go for the militant organizations and Assam Police has immediately verified such type of information and arrested number of people of linkmen.

“We are following that particular link also and operations are going on in Upper Assam districts and inter-state boundaries,” the Assam DGP said.
