BJP and its ally AGP to field common candidate in Lakhimpur by- poll
The Lakhimpur seat was vacated after Sarbananda Sonowal become Assam Chief Minister.
Assam BJP unit acting president Santanu Bharali said that, BJP and its ally AGP will be fielded a common candidate in the bye election in Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency.
“Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal had discussed about the candidate selection matter with the party national president and hope it will be finalized within short time,” Bharali said.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday meet BJP’s National President Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed about the forthcoming elections in the state.
A top party source said that, selection of candidates for bye election in Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency and Baithalangsoo assembly constituency was discussed in the high level meeting.
“The selection of candidates for the bye election which to be held on Nov 19 had not finalized so far,” the top BJP source said.
The source further said that, BJP may be fielded Dr Mansing Rongpi as the party candidate in the Baithalangsoo bye election.
Former Congress MLA Dr Mansing Rongpi, who represented the Baithalangsoo assembly constituency for consecutive three times had joined the saffron party in August last.
“The party will decide to field whom in the bye election,” BJP MLA Jairam Engleng said.
