Bulandshahr gang-rape incident might be a conspiracy by opposition : UP Minister Azam Khan

Lucknow, Aug 2 (IBNS) : At a time when the nation is yet to recover from the shock of the mother-daughter gang-rape in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh Minister Azam Khan made a controversial statement, suggesting the incident could be an "opposition conspiracy."

"We need to investigate whether this is a conspiracy by opponents who want to defame the government," media reports quoted the senior Samajwadi Party leader as saying.

"For votes, people can stoop to any level. There can be a Muzaffarnagar, a Shamli and Kairana...why not this? For power, politicians can murder people, trigger riots, kill innocent people, so the truth has to be found out," he remarked.

Khan's utterances came in the face of a virulent opposition attack on the Akhilesh Yadav Government for alleged failure of the law and order machinery and the issue assumed a greater dimension in the poll-bound state.

The family from Noida was on its way to a funeral late on Friday when an armed gang stopped the car, tied and beat up the men and gang-raped a 35-year-old woman and her teen daughter for almost three hours.

Seeking justice, the  39-year-old cab driver whose family was attacked, has threatened that all three of the family will commit suicide if the culprits are not punished in three months.

He said he had not returned home to avoid facing neighbours or friends.
